Finally completed the last stage of this overhaul in the wee hours of the morning. It's been an arduous journey, but well worth the time and effort. Work began with the installation of a gold Bigsby-style vibrato tailpiece. I first used a mechanical pencil, length of string, masking tape, centering ruler and set square to determine and mark the position of the vibrato tailpiece. Following this, the tailpiece was clamped in place and two pilot holes drilled for the top-mounting screws.
Once these two screws had been installed, I was able to drill holes for, and install the three remaining tailpiece-plate screws. Everything went smoothly save for the butt-end strap button. It did not feel secure as the gold screw that came with the set was a little too short. Replacing this screw with a longer brass wood screw settled the issue, and the strap button is now as solid as a rock.
After a final clean and polish, all that remained was string installation and setup. Before that, however, the fretboard needed to be conditioned with lemon oil. It was a thirsty fretboard indeed, soaking up almost all of the oil in no time at all. Setup was with a set of 10s, as per the owner's instructions. And with that, this Chibson is ready for a new lease of life.
