The first thing I did after receiving this Congress BW-4151CB Acoustic was to service the truss rod nut. Following that, I carefully tightened the truss rod a little day by day and finally got the fretboard level.

The next step was to clean the frets and fretboard, which was a really arduous task. The first two frets were badly worn, so they were replaced. Only after replacing those two frets, did I realize that the third fret was also a goner. Oh well, it's all in a day's work. Having replaced the three frets, it was time for a fret level and dress. I'm pleased to report that the frets and fretboard should be playable for many years to come.

Now I had to tackle the bulging belly, which was particularly evident in the area right under the bridge. First, a small plastic container containing a damp rag was placed inside the guitar. Then, two narrow planks of wood and foam spacers were clamped to the top and back, right over the affected area. The soundhole and preamp side cavity were also sealed to minimize moisture leakage.

The Congress BW-4151CB is now lying on its back in my work room. I'll be checking the damp rag every couple of days and re-moisten it as necessary. The estimated time for the belly bulge to be reduced should be anywhere from two to four weeks. This method has worked for me before, so I see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Blast from the Past | LIBRA 2018 Meet & Greet Jamming Sessions

On December 4, 2018 The Bee @ Publika hosted a meet and greet jamming session, which was a sneak preview of the bands that would be performing in Langkawi for LIBRA Vol.2  [December 29 - 31 2018]. All this while, we've had no video footage of River Blues' performance on that night. The good news is that nearly five years after the event, River Blues manager Mohd. Azmi Alias has passed me two videos. Thanks for watching, and peace out.

Now would be a good time to take a look at what's on the inside of this Congress BW-4151CB Acoustic. Looking at the pics below, it is evident that real wood has been used in the construction of this instrument - top, sides, back, neck and tail blocks, bridge plate, kerfing and bracing.

This post focuses on the bridge and electronics of this Congress BW-4151CB. The rear edge of the weather-beaten wooden bridge is missing. What's left of this bridge isn't really attached to the top any more. It's just held in place by a few bridge pins and the piezo pickup cable. The area of the top directly under the bridge is full of glue residue, and has started to swell. I'll have to address these issues before attempting a bridge reglue.

Electronics-wise, the guitar sports an unbranded generic preamp featuring a four-band EQ with sweepable mid boost/cut and a mute button. Based on how new it looks, I reckon this preamp did not come stock with the guitar, but was installed by a previous owner. Really nice, except that all the sliders and knobs are jammed, and the 9V battery holder is missing. It's a safe bet that I'll be replacing the whole preamp somewhere down the line.
