Charity Jam Session 2023 at Hangover PJ

Related Videos

It was Sunday the 9th of July; and Charity Jam Session 2023 was upon us. River Blues rolled into Hangover PJ at around 1pm and I tell you, the joint was already packed to the gills! I was really happy to meet and spend some time with organizing chairman Mr SS Rajaa, Mr Vimal [Where Else head honcho], Aloq Setaq buddies Dr Shah, Suvinder and Tari, younger brother Bruce and sister-in-law Caroline; as well as cousins Steve, Etta and Lena.

The day's proceedings kicked off with a lively performance by ROAR feat Dhol Riderz and The Dholiz Malaysia. United by a good cause, these three Punjabi gentlemen came together to rock the floor and with their Dhol got everyone to do the Bhangra! They certainly started with a bang and made the crowd roar!

Following this was a rousing opening speech by Organizing Chairman Mr SS Rajaa. In his speech, Mr SS Rajaa reminded all present that the event was dedicated to the memory of Ivo Nekvapil, Mark Peter and "the others who have also gone up there."

First to hit the stage was Small Stones, a band of seasoned veterans, namely Gerard Emmanuel [guitar/vocals], Hamdan Yaacob [lead guitar], Mizi Kamarudin [bass/vocals] and Lourds Anthony [drums]. Small Stones delighted the crowd with a selection of evergreen hits from the '60s, '70s and '80s. Up next was the Jetliners, featuring out-of-this-world Telecaster licks, lush keyboard soundscapes, and powerful vocals from all four members.

River Blues was act number three, and we managed to perform seven songs before the time bell rang. While we were packing our gear, Mojo Hand took the stage. Julian Mokhtar [guitar/vocals], Abdul Razak Salleh [drums] and Shah Shariff [bass] certainly know how to rock out, methinks. Julian also has a way of putting a unique spin on any tune, making it his own.

We would have liked to have hung around and listened to all the bands slated to perform, but two of us had to work the next day. And so we headed for home at around 6:30pm, reaching Kuantan before midnight. Kindly note that Charity Jam Session 2023 videos will be uploaded to my YouTube channel when available.
