Yamaha F310 | Repairs and Upgrades

This Yamaha F310 acoustic guitar has been in the owner's possession for a very long time, Unfortunately, it came in with several issues. The first was the flood-damaged back. Delamination had taken its toll and I didn't have the heart to photograph the mess. Next was the fretboard, which was in dire need of conditioning. Following this, the stock tuners had eventually given up the ghost after years of faithful service and needed to be replaced. Finally, the owner had installed a Fishman Presys preamp, which was no longer functioning.

Let's start with back, then. After regluing what I could, voids were filled with DAP Plastic Wood. After several applications and lots of sanding, the affected areas were level enough for staining. Following this, the whole guitar was clear coated. I went with a matt finish for the back, for obvious reasons.

The fretboard was duly conditioned, with pleasing results. A new set of tuners was also installed. As for the preamp, I was not in favor of another side-mounted unit. As such, the gaping hole left by the Presys was sealed with a piece of black pickguard material.

I've found the Fishman NEO-D Single Coil soundhole pickup to be an excellent choice for players who don't want to deal with batteries and such. This is what I installed on the F310. The pickup cable was cut to a suitable length and soldered to an endpin jack. That's about it, and now the owner has a playable acoustic that can be amplified when needed.
