The subject of today's post had never been serviced, and it showed. As you can see in the pictures below, the guitar was awash in dust, dirt, crud, rust, grime and even cobwebs.
The hardware was in generally poor shape. After dismantling everything, I sifted through the components and decided what could be saved and what needed to be retired from service.
Among the components that went straight into the recycle bin were the pickup height screws and springs, as well as all the pickguard screws.
Although the rosewood fretboard needed a thorough cleaning and conditioning, the truss rod functioned well enough for me to straighten the neck. The frets, although tarnished, were still level and just needed a good polishing.
The double-locking Edge Zero II Tremolo and ZPS3Fe Stabilizer were initially in bad shape, but were working well after, you guessed it; a good clean, polish and lube job.
On to the electronics, then. The body cavities of the RG350DXZ were factory-shielded with conductive carbon paint, a nice touch. Meanwhile, the pickups consisted of an Ibanez INF4 humbucker [bridge], INFS3 single coil [middle] and INF3 humbucker [neck]. All three were in good working order.
The 500K volume and tone pots, PCB selector switch and output jack were already showing signs of corrosion, and so they had to go. Replacement components included Alpha A500K pots and a Switchcraft output jack.
That's about it for this overhaul. Last but not least, I've uploaded a short
SoundCloud clip of owner Hamdan playing his beloved 2014 Ibanez RG350DXZ. Do give it a listen.
