Yamaha F310E Acoustic Rehab - Part 6

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6

It's a fine morning on October 3, 2025. As restaining has been taken care of, we can proceed to the next step, which is laying down a protective top coat over the repaired areas. I've opted for a hand-rubbed top coat of Minwax Antique Oil Finish. My target is to apply at least five layers of finish before steel wooling and hand polishing.

It's October 7, and the top coat is as smooth as it'll ever be. Time to install the replacement tuning machines. I'm not messing with those protective white stickers on the backs of the tuning machines as they're there for a purpose.

Up next is fretboard and bridge conditioning. At this point in time, I'm quite convinced that both the fretboard and bridge are rosewood, based largely on appearance. What do you think? Do share your thoughts in the comments section. In any case, the fretboard was so dry that it thirstily soaked up three applications of lemon oil. The rest of the body, meanwhile, was cleaned, before being polished with GetSun Carnauba Car Wax.

On to restringing and setup, then. The owner's strings of choice are D'Addario EZ890s (9 - 45) with an unwound G string. Excellent choice, methinks. After reinstalling the piezo pickup, I had to install a replacement saddle, as the current saddle was too chewed up to be of any use.

Quite a number of tasks were completed since the wee hours of this morning, and I'm pleased to report that this Yamaha F310E Acoustic is now good to go. The owner has been notified, and will most probably drop by on Saturday to pick up his newest baby. All's well that ends well. Now, let's look at some pics.
