Sterling SR30 | Hard Maple Neck
This guitar features a satin-finished bolt-on hard maple neck of unspecified origin. Neck width is 42 mm at the nut and 56.6 mm at the last [22nd] fret. Right off the bat, one notices that the neck is angled upwards in relation to the body. In other words, neck pitch is incorrect. We should be able to rectify this with a shim of the appropriate thickness.

The bolt-on neck joint utilizes a metal neck plate and five mounting screws. The neck plate itself is engraved with "Sterling by Music Man" and the instrument's serial number. This neck joint features a contoured heel, which should translate into enhanced upper fret access and greater playing comfort.

Of particular interest with regard to this neck is the single action spoke wheel truss rod adjustment mechanism located at the heel. Thanks to a cutaway in the pickguard and a recess in the body, the truss rod may be adjusted without detaching the neck.
