As received, this GRG270 was hardly up to snuff electronically. Both humbuckers and the lone single coil were working, but that was about it. There was zero shielding throughout, save for the coaxial pickup leads. To make matters worse, corrosion had taken hold of the dime-sized pots, selector switch and output jack.

We began the overhaul by shielding the pickup and control cavities with conductive paint, and back cover with copper foil. Grounding tabs were also installed, terminated at a common point on the control cavity wall.

Meanwhile, all three pickups were thoroughly cleaned and treated to new pickup springs, as well as pickup ring and height adjustment screws. Other replacement components included full-sized Alpha A500K pots, a five-way switch, 0.022uF poly tone cap and Switchcraft output jack.
